• CBN wheels for aircraft engine components

CBN - WheelsElectroplated CBN form wheels for aerospace alloys

We are the leader in implementing plated CBN technology for manufacturing aircraft engine components. With shorter production runs, plated CBN wheels are the number one choice for close tolerance form grinding applications, proving to be more cost effective than other material removal processes. If you want to reduce your cost per part, call and let us demonstrate the advantages of plated CBN technology.

CBN - BladesElectroplated clearance control coatings

We specialize in plating CBN to rotating gas turbine engine components to achieve clearance control. Typical aircraft engine parts include turbine blades, compressor blades and seals. Advantages of CBN coatings include the elimination of grinding plasma sprayed coatings. Contact our aerospace engineers to learn how we can meet your clearance control coating needs.

Grinding superalloys with plated CBN wheels

Plated wheels differ from bonded wheels in that they are made by bonding a single layer of superabrasive to a preformed steel core. The bonding is accomplished by electroplating nickel to the preform while CBN particles are in contact with the wheel core. As nickel plates onto the steel core, the particles are trapped in place. The unique attributes of this abrasive coating provide some specific performance advantages. Manufacturers of turbine engine components have improved productivity and workpiece quality by employing plated CBN wheels in a variety of grinding applications. These components are made of nickel and cobalt based alloys referred to as superalloys: alloys that maintain their strength and shape at the high temperatures commonly encountered in gas turbines. The increased popularity of CBN plated wheels in grinding superalloys is due to several beneficial characteristics inherent in plated wheels.
